millions of years of geological epochs have transformed the evolution of this land. and although the russian river now meanders 120 miles in a southerly direction down from lake and mendocino counties, the river then turns abruptly west above the farm and heads to the pacific ocean.

the river slows down somewhat as it meanders to the ocean and flows through several small hilly ridges. the hills and valleys are mostly douglas firs and redwoods, and a scattering of shrub oak and manzanita.

high over the farm the red tail hawk can fly the five miles directly west, and be out over the pacific ocean and bodega bay in less than a minute.
