knowlton farms

knowlton farms borders on the gravenstein highway ridge, and is encompassed by two award winning ava's: the russian river valley and the green valley.

both are very similar, and yet have a unique viticulture shaped by several factors, including rock types, soil character, the sun, the weather and grape quality.

our particular soil is typical of the russian river area, which was formed by
geological sandstone that created the goldridge loam soil.

the green valley soil has also benefited from past geological activity of water flowing off the sonoma mountain range. the water carried with it eroded volcanic material, creating a soil with large amounts of sandy loam and clay.
